Raze to the Ground/Politics of Playgrounds

Raze to the Ground/Politics of Play Ground is an (artistic) research project in which I document the ongoing discussions about how to deal

with the Osama Bin Laden death site within a regional, national and international context. Are the decisions which have been made in Pakistan

the right ways to deal with the site? Could it be that monuments are not needed to make a site memorable and that emptiness offers a place

for more effective remembrance?

About Noor us Sabah Saeed

I am a visual artist and art activist from Karachi, Pakistan and based in Germany since 2013. I recently finished Masters in Fine Arts M.F.A, ‘Public Art and New Strategies’ from Bauhaus University Weimar, Germany. I did my Bachelors in Fine Arts B.F.A) from Dept. of Visual Studies, University of Karachi.

After finishing my undergraduate degree, I worked for various grassroots initiatives. One of them is Learn 2 Learn Academy, a project-based learning initiative, where, I worked for two years as a curriculum designer and designed interdisciplinary projects for children. I also collaborated with Teach for Pakistan fellows to design workshops in a Government school as well as taught drawing at Rangoowala community center, a popular learning space for women in Karachi.

Meanwhile, I also participated in youth leadership workshops and conferences. Significantly, World Youth Conference in Istanbul, which provides platform for youth of similar regions to come together and create dialogue to solve issues in their respective regions. In the result, the idea of South Asian Youth Conference was initiated and became a platform for South Asian Youth to come together each year in one of South Asian (SAARC) Countries and talk about regional issues and their solutions. I was part of 2nd South Asian Conference held in Islamabad, Pakistan. In 2013, I got selected as an art activist to attend Global Power Shift (Climate Change) event organized by 350.org in Istanbul, Turkey. Since then I am part of International art activist network Artivist.net and continuously working with artists and activists from Europe here in Germany. Recently I was part of a weeklong seminar in Berlin, ‘Civil Society welcoming Refugees in Europe’, organized by Initiative Mitte- und Osteuropa and Balkans let’s get up.

As an artist, my projects are mostly researched based. My art practice is not medium specific but context specific. Social media, TV, and direct human interaction inspires me to reflect upon current social and political issues. My work is about experimentation not only with established artistic mediums but also to find out new ways to create more interactive artworks.
